Falling Asleep
Today I was working on downsizing our toy collection and in so doing needed to organize all the toys. So we all went downstairs and turned on the cartoons and started playing with all the neatly organized piles mommy had made... So after a few minutes of bugging mommy, things calmed down and Ethan came around the corner and said "Mommy Andrew's sleeping" of course I thought, no way he's watching Thomas the train! But sure enough this is how he looked when we found him!

Andrew's week at the hospital
We started the new year off with a bang. We got home Sunday evening to find our basement had flooded while we were on vacation! Then Monday morning we got up and had to make phone calls to get someone over to dry out the basement etc. Andrew woke up and was running a fever and was pretty unresponsive. He just laid on my shoulder most of the day and dozed. I called the doctor's office but they couldn't see him until 4pm. So we waited(something I wish I hadn't done)most of the day, I knew he had a fever, but at his afternoon nap, I took his temperature and it was 104.1 rectally. Wow! I don't think I have see a temp that high in either of my boys. So I just held him and let him sleep some more. He hadn't really eaten anything and wasn't drinking his milk either. He had been sick the whole 2 weeks we were away, first it was a sore throat then it turned into an ear infection. He was on antibiotics the entire time, so I didn't know what else I could be doing for him. Around 3:30 we left the house and I got to the doctor's office early. By this time I was kind of panicked because his fever would only go down to 103 with tylenol. He just wasn't getting any better. The doctor took his temp and looked at his ears, listened to his lungs and checked his throat. Everything was bad, she turned to me and said I think we need to admit him. I just lost it, I told her how I did everything the doctors had told me to do and our basement flooded and I was really at the end of my stress level. She just patted me on the back and said she would take care of him and get him better. I loaded up Ethan and Andrew and drove to the hospital where they had already sent ahead all the information for us to get checked in quickly and go up to his room. I had called our great friend Nick to come and take Ethan for the night and called our parents to see who could come and stay with him while we were in the hospital. My mom got up early the next morning early and drove out here to help. Andrew's first night in the hospital was his worst. His fever would not break and he slept most of the time with fits of convulsions from the fever that scared me half to death. It took all night for his fever to break and they were good about giving him Tylenol every 4 hours, but whoever was on call would not let us give him ibuprofen with it even though I knew it was recommended before. The next morning he was feeling much better, his fever was gone and he even ate a good breakfast! They came in and informed me that he tested positive for mycobacterial pneumonia and RSV. So needless to say, we were in for a long stay. They put up all these caution signs and anyone who came in had to have a face mask, gloves and plastic robe to do anything with Andrew. We didn't care about all those things, we were his parents, he was scared enough as it was. The good news was that he improved very quickly and after 5 days, his lungs were almost totally clear and we were released to go home. The bad news was that Ethan had an ear infection and fever by that time as well as croupe. So they both had breathing treatments and antibiotics for the next 10 days! What a way to start the year!
